Outdoor Toy Storage Tips

Summer is well underway and by now you might be looking for a solution to store all of those outdoor summer toys that are piling up. Here are some product ideas to help corral the outdoor toys and still make it easy enough for your kiddos to grab what they need!

Outside Storage for Summer Toys:

Storage bench:

A weatherproof storage bench is a great option to store outdoor related toys year round. The one we have at our house is from Sam’s Club (which I no longer see on their site), but many retailers sell something similar such as the one below. This is low enough that kiddos can access but things can get quickly unorganized inside the bench. A few tall Sterilite bins such as these could keep toy categories more in place inside the bench.

Temporary Outdoor Storage Tent:

A canvas storage tent/shed is a great way to store larger items like inflatables or larger yard toys. It isn’t a permanent shed that you have to look at all year :) but something that you can keep in your backyard just for a few months and easily drag out items like that bounce house or slip & slide. Store in your basement during the winter.

Plastic Tubs:

Plastic tubs are an inexpensive way to store outdoor toys like sport balls & water toys. Amazon also has a range of colors available. They are low to the ground for kids to access but items can get rained on without a lid so definitely not for storing things you don’t want to get wet :). Drill some holes on the bottom and sides of the tub so water can drain out if it rains.

Garage Storage for Outdoor Toys:

Easy open bins:

Assuming you have shelves in your garage (if not I love these HDX shelves from Home Depot), bins that are lightweight, are open (no lids), and have handles are easiest for younger kiddos to access their summer toys. I like the Chancellor bins from Container Store if you as a parent want to not see the clutter of toys. They are lightweight, on the budget friendly side, and come in a variety of sizes. The Stacking white baskets from Container Store are also a nice “open” bin option where kids can see & easily grab their toys. Lastly for items like chalk, I do like bins with lids on them like the latching containers from Container Store. They are clear for kiddos to see and easy to carry over to the driveway. Lastly the stackable recycling bin from Container Store is a bit more heavy duty but a great option to organize larger outdoor toys in the garage.

Sport equipment/Pool:

This storage solution from Container Store can hold a wide range of sports equipment in your garage, is durable and doesn’t take up a ton of space.

A wire or plastic laundry hamper could also work in the garage for tall toys like baseball bats or is a great option for storing pool noodles.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of summer! My oldest starts Kindergarten this Fall so it is the first time I’m feeling like summer has an “end” date. Trying to soak up all the summer fun here in St. Louis because it is definitely going by way too fast!
