Spring is here and it's a great time to get your garage decluttered and organized for all the warmer weather activities and yardwork ahead! Here are some quick decluttering tips and products to get your garage in order:
How to Declutter your Garage:
First, clear out items onto your driveway- as you move out items start putting things in different categories on your driveway- for example make a pile of yard tools or sporting equipment.
Next, go through each category and let go of anything that is broken/rusted or unused.
For items that are unused but still in good condition, Habitat for Humanity Restore (on Grand and in Ballwin) can be a donation resource for many items you will find in your garage like yard tools or power tools in good condition.
Before you move everything back into your garage that you are keeping, try to just store things in the garage that are related to outdoor or home maintenance type activities and consider moving other things to your basement. Items will be better protected in the basement away from temperature and moisture fluctuations in a garage.
Garage Storage Ideas:
First I recommend getting free standing shelves in your garage so items are off the ground and away from moisture. Also several companies make rail systems to help you maximize the vertical space in your garage to hang items such as lawn tools or sports equipment.
These black multipurpose bins look sharp in a garage and come in different sizes to hold similar things together like fertilizers, or everything needed to clean a car. The bins are translucent enough that contents can still be seen inside.
I also like using bins that stack to maximize space on shelf and contain smaller related items.
Lastly the Husky bin is great for holding bulky items like sports balls. The bins can stack on the floor or go right on a shelf.
